READING AND BEYOND WELCOMES NEWEST CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER (CEO)SANDRA FLORES
Today, the Board of Directors of Reading and Beyond announces the hiring of Sandra Flores as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) effective September 6, 2022. This action is the culmination of a national search for a successor to Luis Santana who founded the organization in 1999. Initially, Flores will work alongside Santana who is transitioning into retirement. As CEO of Reading and Beyond, Flores will oversee the organization and will report to the Board of Directors. Flores, a Fresno native, has spent her life’s work on improving the quality of life amongst children and families of the San Joaquin Valley and now is taking the next step as CEO. Most recently, Flores served as Interim CEO for Teen Success, Inc where she guided the organization through a leadership change. A large part of her career was spent at the Central Valley Community Foundation as a Senior Program Officer. She has also served on several boards and committees, including the Transform Fresno Outreach and Oversite Committee, because of her passion to bring change to her community.
According to the Board’s Chairperson, Randy Dhindsa, “The Board is pleased to have found in Sandra someone to carry on the strategic plan and to continue our history of integral community service.”
She lives in Fresno with her husband and takes great joy in her grandchildren.

We’ve been building foundations for children and families since 1999
What began as a community-led effort to support the reading abilities of neighborhood children in Fresno, CA, has evolved into an organization that serves the needs of children and families across multiple counties in California. Our experience supports research that shows a direct correlation between parental economic success and children’s educational attainment. Our California Bridge Academies and Family Success programs are outcomes-based, dual-generation models aimed at empowering children and families to achieve productive, self-reliant lives.
