In the midst of COVID-19, Reading and Beyond continues to build foundations for Children and families by implementing new programs to meet the community’s immediate needs due to COVID-19

Sub-Programs

COVID-19 Equity Project

The COVID-19 Equity Project is a unique-community based coalition approach to COVID-19 testing by supporting patients through prevention education, contact tracing for positive patients and other social supports through their recovery process. Through the COVID-19 Equity Project, Reading and Beyond has collaborated with Fresno Building Healthy Communities, Jakara Movement, Cultiva La Salud, Fresno Interdenominational Refugee Ministries (FIRM), and Fresno State Central Valley Health Policy Institute (CVHPI). Together in a joint effort, we are the Immigrant Refugee Coalition working to stop the spread of COVID-19 in Fresno County and ensure that our community can access the resources they need to keep themselves and their family safe.

The goal of the program is to reach the underserved, hard to reach communities of immigrant and refugees to assist with health education, PPE distribution, provide easy access to testing and vaccines, identify and help people who have been exposed to COVID-19 to get tested and access resources, and to provide financial support to enable shelter-in-place, isolation, and quarantine

Fresno Food CARES Program

In partnership with the City of Fresno through the CARES act relief, Reading and Beyond launched a Food Distribution program in response to the food insecurity intensified by the COVID-19 pandemic. The program was initiated to provide the most vulnerable population affected by COVID-19 with accessible groceries while connecting them to community resources. The Food Distribution program occurs at the Mosqueda Center in Southeast Fresno, which has historically been a disadvantaged community.

The Food Distribution is a bi-weekly program serving on average 1,000 families.

Notice: Current program is on hold as of 04/01/21. No further food distribution is set in the schedule.
