Reading and Beyond operates two full-day state-funded preschools open to children ages 2.9-5 of low-income families. Focused on the development of the whole child, our kindergarten readiness curricula help children develop motor, reading, writing, and social skills through activities that are age-appropriate, challenging, and engaging.

Children are provided with an integrated learning environment that encourages them to explore and experiment according to their own interests. This allows each child to successfully progress and develop educational skills at his or her own rate. Every child at a Reading and Beyond preschool is surrounded by a nurturing atmosphere of respect and appreciation. We also offer workshops for parents and opportunities for them to be involved in their child’s education. Our whole-family philosophy fosters positive self-esteem that helps each child develop and grow intellectually, physically, and socially.

We measure success through formal and informal observations and assessments. The Desired Results Developmental Profile assessments, which are aligned to the California Preschool Learning Foundations, allow us to chart each individual child’s development within their natural learning environment. We are committed to outcomes-based programming that can demonstrate real education improvements for the children and families we serve.

Community-Based Sites We have 2 participating Community-Based Sites for this program.
